For admissions into next year’s Reception, parents and carers are required to complete an application form known as the “Common Application Form” (CAF) through Kent County Council. This can be found by clicking here for the Kent County Council 'Applying for a School' web page which also provides other key information on primary school admissions. Forms should be submitted in accordance with the LA’s published deadlines for applications (normally early to mid-January before the academic year in which the child is eligible for entry).
Admissions Appeals Timetable
If your child is due to start primary school in September 2023, you can appeal if you are refused a place at one of your preferred schools on National Offer Day (Monday 17th April 2023).
You must submit your appeal before Friday 12th May 2023 for it to be considered by Wednesday 19 July 2023. Any appeals received after this time will be heard within 40 school days from the deadline, or where reasonably possible in line with updated guidance from the Department for Education.
In Year Admission
If you are looking for a place at Tiger Primary because you have recently moved into the area, or your child is at another primary school and you feel that a change of school would benefit their education and/or general wellbeing, you are entitled to apply for a school place. Please contact Tiger Primary School Admissions Officer (Karen Thorpe) to request an In-Year Admissions Form or download a copy by pressing the In Year Admissions Form button. This form must be completed and returned to the Primary Academy Admissions Officer.
Please Note: There is no guarantee that a place will be available, but you do have the right to appeal if you are declined a place.
Oversubscription criteria (in order child offered space) is:
- Students with a statement of special educational need (SSEN) or Education Health Care Plan (EHCP) will be admitted where Tiger Primary School is named in the statement.
- A looked after child is a child who is (a) in the care of a local authority, or (b) being provided with accommodation by a local authority in the exercise of their social services functions (see the definition in Section 22(1) of the Children Act 1989) at the time of making an application to a school.
- A previously looked after child means such children who were adopted (or subject to child arrangements orders or special guardianship orders) immediately following having been looked after and those children who appear to the admission authority to have been in state care outside of England and ceased to be in state care as a result of being adopted.
- A child is regarded as having been in state care outside of England if they were in the care of or were accommodated by a public authority, a religious organisation, or any other provider of care whose sole or main purpose is to benefit society.
- Children of staff employed by Future Schools Trust and working at Tiger Primary School as their primary place of work where:
- i) The member of staff has been employed at the school for two or more years at the time at which the application for admission to the school is made.
- ii) The member of staff is recruited to fill a vacant post for which there is a demonstrable skill shortage.
- Current family association with Tiger Primary School (a current family association means that the child who wants a place will have a brother or sister (sibling) attending the same school when they start there and they live at the same address. Brothers and sisters means children who live as brother and sister in the same house, including natural brothers or sisters, adopted siblings, stepbrothers or sisters and foster brothers or sisters.
- Nearness of children's homes to school – we use the distance between the child’s permanent home address and the school, measured in a straight line using the National Land and Property Gazetteer (NLPG) address point. Distances are measured from a point defined as within the child’s home to a point defined as within the school as specified by NLPG. The same address point on the school site is used for everybody. When we apply the distance criterion for the school, these straight line measurements are used to determine how close each applicant’s address is to the school.
